Welcome back to the ever-evolving landscape of Oval's "Now / Never / Whenever" EP series. Like its predecessors, Vol.5 is again a fleeting exhibit of Oval's creative flair, presenting a curated selection of exclusive material that dissolves into the ether after 24 hours.

Track Comments for Vol.5:

1 - Fotobook (2010)

This track is actually a collage of four minimal vignettes / improvisations I created for a planned photobook / audio CD-hybrid dedicated to legendary Japanese street photographer Daidō Moriyama…which never materialized (?). You can tell that I was right in the middle of recording “O”, which had started as a collection of about 200 short themes - and I was probably exploring what it could sound like when a theme was longer than 8 bars.

2 - Riff (2020)

One of the many tracks that I had prepared as background music to my first radio play about perfume for German National Public Radio that didn’t make it into the final edit. Originally, the overall sound of this material was a lot less gritty, but I remember going through every track one by one, adding guitar amps and percussion. Anyway, the list of unused tracks for this radio play could actually make for an album in itself…maybe one day.

3 - Glass UFO (2011)

This track was hidden away on the DVD-ROM disc of the physical release of my “OvalDNA” album, which has been out of print for a while now. In fact, I hid an entire album’s worth of rare tracks on that data disc, so I at least wanted to bring this one back for this EP series - maybe the perfect opportunity to youtube the quirky music video Amberley Productions did for Glass UFO back then. I still can’t quite get my head around that drum pattern, though, but I will someday.

Experience this month's edition of "Now / Never / Whenever Vol.5", another carefully curated sonic puzzle piece of a larger, ever-evolving momentary museum. A unique, temporary pop-up sound salon, open exclusively for 24 hours.
